Kanikkamatha church is a catholic Parish church under the Archdiocese of Trichur, Kerala, India The Church belongs to Syromalabar Sui Juries Church which comes under Catholic Church headed by the Bishop of Rome-Pope.
Kanikkamatha, the title indicates the presentation of child Mary, who became mother of Christ, in the Temple of Jerusalem. There was an old custom among Jewish people to present their children in the temple and allow them to grow there under the guidance of religious leaders and sages. According to this custom the parents of Mary presented her in the temple at the age of three.
Fr. Jaison Maroky is the present parish priest of the church since 2016. Parish Priest together with trusties and Parish council administer the entire activity of the Parish.

Blessing of the first Chapel at Panamukku by Msgr. Zacharias Vazhappilly (Vicar General of Trichur) during the period of Fr.George Kannath as the Parish priest of Nirmalapuram Parish.
The first Church was blessed by the Bishop Mar Joseph Kundukulam and given permission to celebrate Holy Mass during Sundays and feast days. Fr. Thomas Panjikaran was the Parish Priest during that period.
A new parish Church was constructed and blessed by Bp. Mar Joseph Kundukulam . On the same day the Bishop also declared the church as a Parish with Fr. John Kollannur as first Parish Priest.
Fr. Mathew Kuttikottayil was appointed as the first residential Parish Priest of Panamukku Kanikkamatha church. It was during his period 15 kudumbakutaima were introduced .

In 29 th October 1998 Holy Family convent was blessed by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy. Sisters work in the field of Family Apostolate (counseling and family visit) in the Parish. The Convent had a Primary school in the beginning and later it came to cease. At present sisters run a ladies hostel attached to the convent. Sisters give leadership to the Palliative care unit of the Parish. At present six sisters are involved in the active ministry.
